Introduktion

The Balochistan National Movement-Iran (Balochistan Raji Zrombesh) is a political organisation which aims to pursue the national-democratic interests of the people of Balochistan in Iran. To achieve its aims, the technological advantages of electronic media such as the internet shall be explored and used as indispensable mass communication tools.

Access to the internet is playing a crucial role in the socio-political awakening and general awareness of the people of Balochistan. It is perhaps the fastest and safest way to communicate with the people of Balochistan under the current circumstances.

The BNM, as can be seen, has embarked on using all types of mass communication such as the internet. The launch of its web-site is the latest initiative to promote its policies and approaches on the issues concerning Balochistan and its people.

Balochistan Raji Zrombesh was born out of the ongoing Baloch national struggle. In 1972 a small group of devoted Baloch fighters declared the establishment of the earliest cell of the Baloch national resistance in southern Balochistan. Prior to gathering large popular support, most of the members and leaders were arrested and put in jail.

With the demise of the Shah in 1979, the organisation once again re-launched its activities and political struggle under the name of Balochistan-e-Raji Zrombesh (Balochistan National Movement). The new regime could not tolerate the rise and spread of the national-democratic movement in Balochistan. Therefore the organisation was outlawed by the regime. The BRZ carried the torch of the movement and continued to carry out its activities underground. The leader RAHIM ZARDKOHI was shot dead by the regime in Pahra (Iranshar) in combat in 1980.

In 1982, the BNM attracted a large number of Baloch intellectuals and political activists who contributed to changes in the organisation and a change of name to Baloch Raj-e-Zrombesh (Baloch People's Struggle).

Since then the organisation has been very active in propagating the idea of Baloch nationalism, leading and organising for the national struggle of Balochistan widely publishing the first programme of Autonomy for Balochistan and later "Balochistan" (the organisation’s journal). Its first all party conference was convened in 1991. The conference charged the Central Committee with taking the necessary steps to convene the first congress. It also appointed a committee to assess the organisation's programme and constitution.

One year later (in 1992), through the consistent, hard work of the organisation’s active members, the Congress was convened in the summer of 1992 at which the autonomy programme and the constitution were discussed in detail and amended.

The Congress decided that the name of the organisation be restored to its original as Balochistan -e- Raji Zrombesh (Balochistan National Movement).

In 1995, the second Congress was successfully convened. It emphasised the importance of the national-democratic movement in Balochistan, and reiterated its commitment to the struggle. The Central Committee has had numerous sessions, and published several volumes of journals (ie Baluchistan), booklets and press releases on issues concerning the people of Balochistan.

BNM supporters have also been making strenuous efforts to further the national-democratic movement by publishing a journal (Zrombesh), distributing publications, raising funds and participating in active political discussions on Balochistan.

The horrific incident of September 11 changed the global politics to a great extent. The current political atmosphere in the world has given new life to our  long-time political stance on pursuing our democratic rights on a national-democratic platform. Any effective political efforts in Iran must recognise the multi-ethnic character of the country, and address rights and legitimate concerns of ethnic minorities unequivocally.

Therefore it is our aim to increase BNM’s political activities and utilise the current potentially favourable political situations in Iran and the world. To achieve its aims, the BNM seeks to work to support the people of Balochistan, the democratic movement in Iran and the international community.
